Zentangle...

Discovered the coolest new art form today. It is called "Zentangle". Basically, it is like doodling on steroids. lol

Now, I am not normally a doodle-er. If I am being honest, it usually terrifies me. I can doodle in a meeting or on the side of a piece of paper, what have you. But to actually, consciously make the effort to create a piece of art with doodling...never. That is Mom's forte. I have to say though, this intrigued me and I felt like I had to give it a shot. Here are my first two attempts. Not too shabby if I do say so myself. lol

I think that I am hooked. No more simple flowers or cubes for me. Zentangle is amazing. There are some really fabulous, talented artist out there who practice this. Do a Google search and you will be amazed.

At any rate, just what I need...another hobby! This one is great though because you can so it anywhere and all you need is a piece of paper and something to write with. Try it out. It is a lot of fun!!!

The Weekend and A New Hobby!

Had an awesome weekend! Dropped Skylar off at the Girl Scout camp on Friday night for the weekend. The other two munchkins and I decided on Applebees for dinner. Yummy! Then Saturday morning, dropped them off at Gma and Gpa's for the weekend and headed off to the Women of Joy conference at the Coliseum. The speakers were wonderful and I have never experienced anything like the alter call during the worship with Travis Cottrell. I was front row and it was an amazing experience. God was definitely in the house! Then at the concert Saturday night, Stephen Curtis Chapman blew me away with his testimony and performance. I was in tears the entire time. Don't think there was a dry eye in the house. If you have not been to see him, I highly recommend. Oh yeah, Michael W Smith performed as well. I enjoyed him but after SCC, for me, it just didn't hold a candle. Was a great time of praise and worship. I feel so refreshed and revitalized. Can't wait to do it all again next year. They are moving it to Myrtle Beach though so am definitely needing some sisters who want to go with me to make it a girls' weekend. I missed this morning's conclusion because I wasn't feeling well but I heard that it was amazing!

As for the crafty-ness of the weekend, I have been reading one of Mom's "artsy" books and really wanted to try a mixed media canvas. I have wanted to do one for awhile but just haven't gotten up the courage to try. It seems so far out of my comfort zone. I am a "liner-upper" type person and so collage and thrown together type stuff just terrify me. Anyway, I finally got up the nerve to try it out and this is my first attempt. I don't think it is quite finished yet but I need to think about it some more before I mess it all up.

So, I started out with this...a blank 8x10 canvas

Added some scraps of patterned paper...

A little (or maybe a lot) acrylic paint...

And then some finishing touches...

I am thinking that it needs something else but am satisfied with it for the moment. It really wasn't so bad. I kind of enjoyed it. Will definitely be working on some more in the future.

Hope that you enjoy. Happy Stamping!!!

Update...

Okay guys. I have decided that it is time to get back in to blogging. I need to start sharing some of my crafty things and telling some of the day to day stuff that has been going on in our lives. Facebook is nice but it just can't replace the blog!

So, just a quick update and then I will share a few things I have been working on. Kids are all doing well. Think the end of the school year is hitting because they have been pretty cranky lately. Skylar is in 3rd grade. She is leaving tomorrow for a weekend camping trip with her Girl Scout troop. Brayden is in Kindergarten and has kind of a rough year. His teacher was just not cut out to teach young children and that has led to quite a bit of squaring off this year. Thankfully there are only two weeks left. Peyton...all I can say is "Oh MY!" She is still in the 3 year old class at Miss Edies and so has another year or so before she will go to "real" school. I can only pity them when she does though because, MAN, she is a handful! Gotta love 'em but some days they can truly try your patience! Here is an updated picture from a few weekends ago...

So now a few crafty things. I am really working to build up my stamping business. I have a great group of local girls that meet once a month to make cards and I love them to death. We really have a lot of fun and I enjoy teaching them new things. So, in honor of them (hopefully some will be reading) I am going to attempt to keep up with my blog and definitely add a lot of new crafty projects and ideas. Here are just a few of the projects I have made lately with my favorite new Stampin' Up! set Elements of Style...
